LeBresso – BRESSO comes from the word play “bread” and “espresso”, is a specialty bread shop that started from a house in Osaka. They expanded to Tokyo in 2018 and opened up a branch just minutes away from the Musashi-Koyama Station. This popular bakery, specializes in their thick toast with plenty of ingredients and aromatic coffee, is often widely praised among bread lovers.

The store has a brick exterior with bright and large windows and is unified with white and brown calm interiors. As you enter the store, you will find all their bread they have available for sell on display next to the cashier, making the line relatively seamless. There was already a queue when we arrived first thing in the morning, but the line moves fast as many shoppers buy the whole loaf to take home. They claim to sell more than 300 plain LeBresso Bread a day!

If a whole loaf of bread is too much for you, there’s options to dine-in the bakery for their signature Thick Cut Butter Toast. The hardest part was choosing which one to try. All the flavors spoke to us like Cinnamon & Sugar, Peanut & Honey, or something savory like Pepper Quatro Folder Mudge. We ended up picking the classic Thick-Slicked Butter Toast because we wanted to enjoy the taste of the bread itself. We also got a regular and mocha cappuccino to go with our toast.

As you can see, the thickness can be seen from the side! The toast was beautifully toasted to perfect golden brown and a generous amount of butter has been slathered on top. When Bear cut the toast with the knife, we could see the butter overflow and soaked deep into the bread. It was so hard stop drooling!

The best part is that they give you a jar of Acacia Italian honey for you to drizzle as much as you wish on top of the toast. We ate the first bite without the honey, and enjoyed it just the toast and butter itself. We were hit with the combination of butter and a hint of sweetness from the bread. There was also a sharp contrast between the crispy exterior and the soft, moist interior that danced around our mouths that kept us coming back for more. The next few bites we took to enjoy the all-you-can-eat honey and generously drizzled them on the toast, it was such a perfect match, we quickly finished the toast in no time.

Our Verdict: Must try, can’t wait to visit again

Sometimes the simplest ingredients make the perfect combination. There’s something about freshly baked toast, honey and butter that when putting these 3 ingredients together, it’s hard for Bunny to resist stuffing herself. The toasts from LeBRESSO are moist, soft with a slightly sweet and unique umami aftertaste – making Bunny continuously impatient for her next bite. There are many choices of high quality toasts and bakeries in Tokyo, or even any city across Japan, so please treat your tastebuds to these sinful delights. We can’t wait to go back to try the other pairings on their menu!
