Lon Café opened in 2013 on Enoshima Island, situated on the highest point on the island. It’s the perfect place to sip on coffee with a panorama view of the sea. The café is a little oasis that complements  the carefree nature of the beach. Expanding from Enoshima to Meguro City, Tokyo, the French toast specialty café, opened up a branch just on the ground floor of the Nakameuro station overpass that is more of a small boutique coffee shop with around 5 window seats and a few small tables.

Caramel Cinnamon French Toast

Their specialty is their eye-catching French Toast – many items on their menu are topped off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and either chocolate, caramel drizzle, turning the classic breakfast item into a sweet treat. Their version of the french toast follows the classic French pain perdu, which consists of thickly-cut crusty French bread that’s soaked in cream and custard and pan-fried for a crunchy buttery crust and a soft custard interior.

Close up of their French Toast

When they served our Cinnamon French Toast, it smelled so flagrant and sweet and the presentation was also a feast on the eyes. Bunny was jumping up and down impatiently to dig in.

Just look at the brunt edges of the eggy custard baguette – especially love how the custard caramelized around the crusts of the bread!

Our Verdict: Ok to skip – save your tummy space

As we tried the first bite, the interior was indeed soft and gooey, but it lacked any dimensions when it comes to taste. We didn’t taste the crispy exterior that should be expected from a pain perdu. It was good and makes a striking photo, but it lacked anything distinctive that couldn’t be replicated at home with French bread, custard, cinnamon, cream and caramel drizzle.
